Adult Bladder and Bowel Service

What We Do

The Continence Promotion Service is a team of expert nurses offering advice, assessment, treatment and management of bladder and bowel dysfunction to all patients who are registered with a Liverpool GP.

Following referral to the Continence Promotion Clinical Assessment and Treatment Service, patients will be assessed in clinic/own home/nursing or residential care setting.

Dependent upon the outcome of the assessment the patient will be managed in primary care in partnership with their GP, or if indicated referred to secondary care.

The nursing staff also provide advice, support and education to healthcare professionals about patients with complex needs.

Patients who are registered with a Liverpool GP can be referred directly to the service using the service referral form which can be faxed to 0151 295 3992 or sent to the contact address.

Patients can be referred using Choose and Book system.

Patients can also self-refer at present, contacting the service on the main telephone number 0151 295 3993.

Product Home Delivery Service

Following a clinical assessment, some patients may require a delivery of Continence Products and will be registered with NHS Supply Chain.

Patients who are placed onto products are given an initial order of 16 weeks' supply. For subsequent deliveries, patients are required to contact our ring-back number to place their next order: 0151 295 3994.

Upon delivery, the products will be accompanied by an invoice which will inform the patient of their next scheduled delivery date.

Patients are informed to call our ring-back team when they have two weeks supply remaining, as orders can take 7-10 working days to arrange.

Deliveries are made by an external agency whose drivers will be in unidentifiable vans and will carry identification.

Deliveries are operational between 8.00am – 5.00pm Monday – Friday. Continence Staff can give a specific date but are unable to provide a specific time for delivery.


Patients who request a change to their products will require a reassessment from either our clinical staff or their District Nurse.
